Rhythms of Life

Rhythms of Life teaches Healthy Play Habits -- using non-competitive, challenging, physical and rhythmic activities that promote cognitive development, self-expression, and self-esteem. Our activities appeal to diverse populations transcending barriers such as language, learning and physical abilities, and socio-economic status.

ROL's core programs include: stix play (juggling sticks), juggling, drumming and percussion, Ultimate Frisbee and disc golf, and Sound of Color, water-color painting taught to the beat of music.

Rhythms of Life is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2001. We conduct workshops at schools, recovery centers, and community centers. We have worked with over one-hundred thousand people in nearly 30 States.

Drum Bus

Drumbus1

The Drum Bus!

A mobile, musical, rhythmic classroom...

This full-sized, redesigned school bus comes equipped with authentic African drums and other world percussion as well as buckets, boomwhackers and "stomp" like instruments. Up to 20 students can participate in facilitated drum circles for 30 or 60-minute sessions.

Stix Play

Stix Play!

“Watch me, I did it!” is the most common phrase we hear in these workshops.

This ancient activity involves juggling with two handles and a baton. Native American's, the dynasty-ruled Chinese, and others used them for the same reasons we're doing it: Stix juggling stimulates cross-brain development, improves balance, concentration, and coordination.

Individual play, partner play, and group games are included with this research-based program. There are infinite opportunities for self expression using learned skills and tricks as well as creating your own.

Used in more than 3,500 programs nationwide, our curricula meets national standards and it is always a huge hit with kids, teachers, parents, and principals.

Rhonda Holt, the National Elementary PE Teacher of 2000, points out how this activity levels the playing field so that both athletes and non-athletes experience success. Stix play is gender neutral and non-competitive, while still providing a life time of challenge to master.
